Now that ioni2 is approaching the final stages I see a few things that need to be done (somehow connected with the previous post on the matter – To-do list №2. Some of the things were done, but I still need to make sure that all of them are.

So the final list looks like the following:

Fav Icon for ioni2 (what a Premium WP theme without an Icon?)
Check translations (currently English and Russin)
Open ID. This suka just would not work.

At this stage I can actually call it Known issued with ioni2

Now with ioni2 getting close to the public production state I would like to offer some of you a chance to review the theme before everyone else. To do so you just comment to the article (I assume those of you who offer unsolicited porn, are not requiring my attention on the matter) – and I would send you the zip archive with the theme.

In calling ioni2 Smart Wordpress Theme I mean that it relies heavily on the Wordpress routines with minimum reliance to the side plugins (only for fancy things!)

Ioni2 Comment Policy

Ioni2.com is a showcase for ioni2 – the Free Wordpress Premium Theme. So I understand that sometimes the comments would be senseless or silly or just to check. I do understand.

However, if there is are porn links, unwanted or unsolicited advertising I would feel free to mark it appropriately and delete them as spam for what they are.

For your blog you can create the same comment policy (which should be made optional in the final gamma version) and utilize it: to make sure who is the owner of the comment, how you can use it and what liability you are willing to accept for the comment’s content. Easy, eh?

Developing the Premium theme for Wordpress: To-Do list № 2

Where were some considerable changes to the ioni2 since the last unstable alpha. In doing so I referred to the original ideas and to-do lists which proved very helpful. So my first advise is: When you develop a theme, keep posting in it so that you would see where you are going to!

So my current list to bugs to address and to do looks like the following:

General

Wrap counters and get them by Ajax call
Clean out translation of the theme
Make translations (German, Belarus ,Chineese)
Double-cros check for the installed plugins and Wordpress verion internal check
Ensure the integrity with OpenID is complete
Make OpenID authorisation optional

Commenting

Make sure that the Commenting Terms Agreement is checked for the form to be submit
Make Commenting Terms Agreement optional
Option to choose any Page as Commenting Terms in Admin Panel

Wordpress Plugins:

Recreate Submit to comments plugin – so that it addresses contemporary requirements and allow for inline reply

After that I consider that the theme official shall be moved to Gamma Production shate – and would be made avalibale on http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

ioni2: Ideas [EN]

If you have noticed then the ioni2 is utilizing a lovely feature: all related tags are displayed in the much same way that the Main Tag Cloud does; this what makes ioni2 so cool.

Clean design is fine; but I need ideas: so, shall we move the Search to the top or leave it totally away, to utilize the Ajax style search for Wordpress? Hard to tell, but I think that something will come up any time soon!

Now I have this idea about the formatting of ioni2: The Tags, Archives, Search and Category pages should be the same – since they pretty much list posts; however the main difference would be the Left Sidebar where I would put corresponding links that are semantically connected for the best SEO.

And I plan to create one plugin like Amazon reading one, but for the local store, which may or may not prove to be an interesting experiment

Надо отметить, что премиум-темы, в большинстве случаев жестко запрограммированы – в том смысле, что вы не сможете сильно изменить ни страницы, ни способ, которым отображаются комментарии ни что-нибудь еще в этом роде. Ioni2 не зациклена на статичности – это динамичная, полная энергии и пространства тема, открытая, ясная и главное – бесплатная – то есть все, чем должна быть хорошая тема для Wordpress.

Некоторые вещи, конечно, жестко закодированы – так работают темы. Конечно, зная PHP и понимая Wordpress вам было бы легко настроить ioni2 по своему вкусу, но большинство обычных пользователей интернета, хм, скажем так, скорее менее, чем более продвинуты в этом вопросе.

Пожалуйста, ознакомьтесь с прилагаемой картинкой – она показывает области, о которых я буду говорить в этой статье.

Первая страница блога имеет несколько блоков, которые закреплены жестко, а также несколько, которых могут быть легко изменены. Отличие ioni2 в том, что большинство вещей, которые вы можете изменить, находятся в панели администратора Wordpress, во разделе Дизайн, «настройки ioni2».

Вы можете добавить свой собственный код для основного баннера Google - для того, чтобы заменить эту прекрасную рекламу ioni2. Просто войдите в свой аккаунт Google Adsense, скопируйте код Adsense и поместите его в соответствующее поле. Убедитесь в том, что это код большого баннера, который называется Доска почета – ioni2 не проверяет правильность кода AdSense, и в случае, если вы что-то напутаете, что вверх страницы может выглядеть смешно!

Кстати, говоря об Adsense, вы сразу можете скопировать еще и код под названием Большой Квадрат – 336 X 280 пикселей. Это объявление, которое показано на первой (и некоторых дополнительных) страницах.

Вы можете выбрать столько категорий на верхнем меню, сколько хочется – однако обратите внимание на эстетику – ioni2 может поддерживать две и более линий верхнего меню категорий – но лучше, если все они перечислены в одной строке. Выбор категорий осуществляется так же а панели администратора.

То же самое относится к категории Лучшее. Какова бы ни была настройка плагина Featured Cateogry в административной панели, выбор категорий для темы осуществляется в настройках темы Ioni2. Вы можете выбрать столько, сколько Вы хотите – но ioni2 все равно выберет только три (и выведет их в общем порядке)

Два боковых сайдбара, левый и правый – динамичны, вы можете добавить код через Wordpress панель Виджетов, но прошу вас – уделяйте внимание эстетике!

A few more things to add as an update to the TODO post which lists the things to do. I would like to add the customizable features into the Wordpress admin panel, which I suppose is easy as hell. So here it is

Free Premium Wordpress theme

I have looked into Wordpress for more than two years now and would like to say, that premium themes should be free. Of no completion are some, that are created for serious projects; but not for the general blogger, like you or me.

No wonder, I said to myself first looking into the Wordpress code (1.5 by the time!) that people suffer from silly and ugly general themes for Wordpress! And then I created my first theme, ioni-alpha, which survived for 1 year at my blog, sunshine.by

A year ago Wordpress was nothing like it was when it all started, so I decided to create something different; something that would be XHTML valid, semantic and beautiful, which resulted in ioni, the theme I still use at sunshine.by. This theme was created for Wordpress 2.3 and was not released to the big public because many things are hardcoded into it; however this was the time that I thought to make it free, customizable and offer the public yet another free premium wordpress theme.

I really like what I have done on sunshine.by: the design in clean and semantic; search bots love it because of its clean nature; thus ioni2, the free premium wordpress theme is now available for everyone!
