Hence the next step – an Accelerator for Internet Explorer to track FedEx package! Here are the installation instructions:

Once the Add Accelerator dialog appears, select “Make this my default provider for this Accelerator Category” and click Add

Voila!

Now every time you need to track a FedEx package you only need to select the tracking number anywhere on the page, click on the Accelerator button and select FedEx tracking – the tracking page will open automatically in a new tab

OpenID logo

Upon upgrade for Wordpress 2.8 and sometimes even without it I have encountered an interesting problem: when trying to login using OpenID (or add OpenID via admin panel) I was getting this peculiar message: OpenID login failed: Invalid openid.mode ‘<No mode set>’.

As you know, my Wordpress theme ioni2 is highly customized so I though at some stage that this would be a problem within the code, but the solution was just a few clicks away, really.

What happened?

I would input any OpenID (http or https), be redirected to the OpenID provider site (say, blogspot), confirm my identity and then be redirected back. This is where the blog would give me the error so it was clearly the plugins fault.

Interestingly enough, any similar OpenID plugin would produce the same results. Yadis, Another OpenID plugin – all of them. So I figured out – the problem was not with the ioni2 theme but rather with the underlying server configuration!

Moreover I have seen this problem only and exclusively with Hostgator. For instance Bluehost, where my other projects are hosted, does not seem to have it. Line by line comparison showed that their configurations although difference, are more or less alike. So.. support call!

Solution:

It appears that OpenID was triggering a mod_security rule set by the hosting company:

[*] Rule ID: 340163
[*] URLS Affected: /openid/consumer
[*] Description: Remote File Injection attempt in ARGS (MM)

So the solution was to whitelist the domain within this serverrule. Just request your hosting support something like:

I am running Wordpress and OpenID plugins. OpenID is a well-known standard (you can check it at openid.net) and very secure open-source project, same as Wordpress. However it seems to trigger mod_security as it considers is as a intrusion.

Please whitelist my domain

This should solve the problem of No+mode+Set in OpenID.

Moreover, I believe that the same goes for any server configuration with Drupal, Joomla and any other CMS which relies on this absolutely wonderful DiSO plugin

In calling ioni2 Smart Wordpress Theme I mean that it relies heavily on the Wordpress routines with minimum reliance to the side plugins (only for fancy things!)

So let’s start!

То же самое относится к категории Лучшее. Какова бы ни была настройка плагина Featured Cateogry в административной панели, выбор категорий для темы осуществляется в настройках темы Ioni2. Вы можете выбрать столько, сколько Вы хотите – но ioni2 все равно выберет только три (и выведет их в общем порядке)

Два боковых сайдбара, левый и правый – динамичны, вы можете добавить код через Wordpress панель Виджетов, но прошу вас – уделяйте внимание эстетике!

So while I create the Free Wordpress theme, which also is premium, please hang around and comment wherever you like.

Some things are, of course, hardcoded. This is the way themes work. Of course, having php knowledge and Wordpress understanding it would be easy for you to tweak ioni2 for your liking, but for most common users things like php are.. well.. less the understandable.

Please review the attached picture – it shows the appropriate areas i refer to in this article.

So the first page has several blocks that are hardcoded and some that may be tweaked. The difference of ioni2, from why it is so popular – is that most of things you can tweak, are located in Wordpress Admin menu, ioni2 under Design tab.

You may want to add your own Google Leaderboard code – to change that lovely advertising spot that is taken by ioni2 advertisment at this stage. Just log into your Google Adsense account and grab your code from Adsense panel and put it into the appropriate box. Make sure that this is Leaderboard code, ioni2 does not check for the right AdSense code, so in case you mix things up the page may look funny!

Speaking of Adsence it may be a good idea to grab, cut and paste the Big Square code as well – under the 336 X 280 px. This is the Ad that is shown on the first page.

You may choose as much categories for the top menu as you wish – however note the aesthetics of the theme – ioni2 may support two and more lines of top category menus – but it is better if Categories are in one line. So you may pick them up in ioni2 Admin Panel.

The same goes for Featured Categories. Whatever the markings are on the plugins page, ioni2 uses its own Featured Category picker – in ioni2 admin panel. You may choose as much as you want – ioni2 support currently 3 Featured themes (in general order)

The two sidebars – left and right, are dynamic; you may add code there via Wordpress Widget panel; But again, consider the aesthetics!

A few more things to add as an update to the TODO post which lists the things to do. I would like to add the customizable features into the Wordpress admin panel, which I suppose is easy as hell. So here it is

1. Customizable features in Admin Panel for the theme to include
2. Youtube latest movie item
3. Feed address (can be feedburner, can be ruburner, can be anything!)
4. Google Code for the Top, Left, Right and Bottom
5. Number of categories to put in top menu
6. Picking the three Featured Categories

No wonder, I said to myself first looking into the Wordpress code (1.5 by the time!) that people suffer from silly and ugly general themes for Wordpress! And then I created my first theme, ioni-alpha, which survived for 1 year at my blog, sunshine.by

A year ago Wordpress was nothing like it was when it all started, so I decided to create something different; something that would be XHTML valid, semantic and beautiful, which resulted in ioni, the theme I still use at sunshine.by. This theme was created for Wordpress 2.3 and was not released to the big public because many things are hardcoded into it; however this was the time that I thought to make it free, customizable and offer the public yet another free premium wordpress theme.

I really like what I have done on sunshine.by: the design in clean and semantic; search bots love it because of its clean nature; thus ioni2, the free premium wordpress theme is now available for everyone!
